  1. Equitable distribution
  2. Building something new

One of the most significant factors for whether a learner stays in education is the length and ease(opens new window) of their commute. Costly travel at rush hour is difficult for all of us, but especially for young people entering the world of work for the first time.

We’re breaking down the barriers to the best jobs and the best education: in this case, boosting social mobility means looking at how we can also improve the mobility of our apprentices.

We want to promote sustainable, affordable and safe modes of transport for our apprentice community - many of whom are travelling to and from their place of work for the first time. That’s why we’ve partnered with Lime, one of the leading operators of electric bikes and scooters in the UK and US.

Launching as part of its Lime Access scheme, Lime will provide our community of more than 5000 apprentices with 50% off all Lime e-bike and scooter rides: enabling them to get where they need to go in a safe and sustainable way.

Equitable distribution

Lime is built on the idea that all communities deserve access to safe, sustainable and affordable mobility, and via its Lime Access scheme it offers discounted rides to all qualifying riders, including key workers and lower income riders in more than 100 cities globally.

Leaders at Lime will also provide mentoring and run events for our apprentice community, on topics such as building a global brand, or the future of sustainable travel and infrastructure.

Through the equitable distribution of shared scooters, bikes and transit vehicles, we aim to reduce dependence on personal automobiles for short distance transportation and leave future generations with a cleaner, healthier planet.

Building something new

Alan Clarke, Senior Director of Policy for Lime, said: “Ensuring young people starting out in their careers can enjoy the health and environmental benefits of using our e-bike and scooters is something that’s important to our business, whether helping them get to an important meeting, or attending a training programme. While Multiverse is an organisation dedicated to changing the future of work, here at Lime we want to create a future of transport that is shared, affordable and carbon free. This partnership will support us both in getting one step closer to achieving both.”

Euan Blair, CEO of Multiverse, said: "Lime will support our network of thousands of apprentices to access significantly discounted, eco-friendly, and accessible transport options. This will add even further to Multiverse's rich apprenticeship experience.

“Our apprentice community benefits from a vast network of fellow apprentices, mentoring opportunities, world-class events - and now thanks to a growing number of partners - unrivalled benefits, professional support, and exclusive opportunities.”

We’re tearing down a broken system and building something new. But we can’t do it alone. That’s why partnering with companies like Tortoise Media, Blinkist and Perlego is so important to our mission. Like us, these disruptors are driven by helping people build their knowledge, broaden their horizons, and realise their potential.

Together, we can continue to give our apprentices all the resources they need to thrive – and help create a world where success is determined by talent and effort, not background.
