We’re delighted to share that Multiverse won Employer of the Year at the Black Tech Achievement Awards. This award recognises companies that are driving diversity within the tech industry and is a testament to our mission of creating a diverse group of future leaders, both within and outside of Multiverse.
At Multiverse, we want to be a leader in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), so we’re working hard to drive the change we want to see in the world, inside Multiverse. In this blog, we’ve outlined some of the initiatives we’ve launched in the last 12 months that have contributed to us achieving this award.
Firstly, at Multiverse one of our values is that ‘we make decisions based on facts and logic’. To hold ourselves accountable to our DEI strategy and continuously challenge ourselves to improve, we’ve built a robust data monitoring process which we regularly report on both internally and externally via our DEI website.
In 2022, we launched a 12-month Leadership Accelerator programme that offers mentorship, sponsorship, and coaching to support Multiverse employees from underrepresented backgrounds on their leadership journey. Along with our commitment to inclusive hiring practices, this has resulted in the representation of colleagues from ethnic minority backgrounds at Director+ levels increasing to 20%. This is good progress but we’re committed to improving this further and we’re excited to have recently launched the second cohort of the Leadership Accelerator.
In addition to developing our internal talent into leadership, we’re committed to investing in early talent routes. We know that apprenticeships offer non-graduates from a diversity of backgrounds access to incredible careers and we have apprentices at Multiverse on our Software Engineering, Data, Business and Digital Marketing programmes. And in January 2023, we launched the fourth cohort of our Sales Academy to provide a route into sales for individuals with no sales experience, full training provided.
We have also invested in our DEI ecosystem. We have a network of DEI Champions who meet monthly with our dedicated DEI Team to share feedback from their teams and to gain support with embedding DEI within their day-to-day work. An exciting addition to our DEI ecosystem is our Employee Resource Group (ERG) programme. We’re proud to share that our first ERGs are Black at Multiverse and LGBTQ+ at Multiverse. They have launched with paid chairs, a dedicated budget and leadership sponsors. Our aim is that these ERGs will drive meaningful change, create safe spaces, and encourage peer-to-peer engagement.
Multiverse is committed to making systemic change as it relates to racial equity for our apprentices and employees. In 2022, we launched our partnership with OneTen in support of their mission to advance one million Black Americans in ten years. And in 2023, we entered our third year of partnership with the Black Young Professionals Network, where we host events, create content and advertise jobs.
We have taken these steps to drive our mission forward and positively impact society.
