But the team’s analyzes are only as good as the data that goes into them. That’s where partnering with the right internal subject matter experts is crucial.

To reduce the pressure coming into the company’s central data teams, while continuing to drive innovation across the organization, the data analytics leaders at WGSN are driving forward a business wide data initiative. 

This initiative places a focus on data acceleration to support colleagues in varied departments to gain confidence in data skills and usage. A goal that they would soon find out, would help drive both productivity and revenue.

WGSN has over 250 in-house industry experts, data scientists and advisory consultants. With this large of an organization, serving clients in over 120 countries, the data team at WGSN was receiving regular requests for data support from colleagues in different global departments.

Evolving data capabilities organization-wide meant that teams in departments from content to client advisory could better utilise data to serve WGSN’s clients and partners.

By offering both beginner level and advanced programs, WGSN made data skills accessible for employees across the organization, regardless of their individual starting point.

With an increased focus on expanding their quantitative data capabilities to match their qualitative capabilities and accelerate the process, the team at WGSN knew they’d need a forward-thinking learning partner to help bring their vision to life.

Bridging the data skills gap at Cheshire West and Chester Council

Cheshire West and Chester Council relies on a huge range of data to manage and underpin service delivery and has hundreds of employees working with data every single day.

In partnership with Multiverse, the council ran a skills assessment to identify if there were areas in which the use of data could be improved through training.

"Using data effectively is essential in local government for enabling us to deliver the best possible services to residents: it helps us understand where the challenges and the opportunities across our diverse range of services are. But harnessing data requires skills and the right organizational culture."

That skills scan found that, while many employees were analyzing data, less than 10% were engaging in predictive analysis. It offered a huge opportunity for the council to make the most of the data they had to better predict service demand, deliver an enhanced service to residents, and inform budget planning.

Now, having enrolled more than 70 colleagues from a range of services onto data upskilling programs, new data skills are unlocking valuable insights about the needs of residents and communities, enabling the council to deliver focused digital and transformation programs.

Services are benefiting from a saving in staff time on data management tasks and the Council is seeing wider impact from the creation of the new, Council-wide Data Hive network, supported from the central data science and engineering hub.

Just Eat, a leader in online food delivery marketplaces, partnered with Multiverse to tackle the challenges facing the industry and achieve their strategic goals.

Welcoming more people into digital roles 

Just Eat launched a focused data upskilling program, in partnership with Multiverse, to enable their employees to become data experts.

Learners are trained to use key data tools including PowerBI, SQL and Python.

Over 120 Just Eat employees have enrolled on the Multiverse data upskilling program, across a wide range of different business units including Tech, Customer Operations, Sales and HR.

Driving a strategic workforce plan for the future at Box

Box is the leading Content Cloud provider, offering a single platform that empowers organizations to manage the entire content lifecycle, work securely from anywhere, and integrate across best-of-breed apps.

Talent attraction and retention became an increasingly important focus area, as Box looked to grow their talent internally. To build a strong early talent pipeline, Box turned to Multiverse.

Multiverse's software engineering program supported Box's hiring plans by offering a unique way to attract young people with a demonstrated interest in 

boot camp, where they practiced critical project management skills, master tech skills, and receive coaching in JavaScript, SQL, and HTML.

Through the Multiverse program, Box apprentices are driving valuable impact to their engineering department and leveraging their communities at Box and Multiverse.

"Through partnering with Multiverse we have been able to take the necessary steps needed to drive a purposeful hiring plan and develop the talent needed for the future of our organization, alongside offering an amazing opportunity for apprentices to gain valuable skills and have access to development opportunities."

Box has seen an increase in productivity gains due to new skills gained and applied by apprentices. 

In one case, a Box apprentice was able to temporarily take on manager level responsibilities which allowed their manager to redistribute 40 hours of their time to focus on larger strategic Box initiatives.

Box is providing apprentices with key skills and development opportunities to support long-term growth and success, with 100% of apprentices on program feeling supported.

Time and money saved through increased efficiency

In one example, a learner automated a risk assessment process which will save over 80 days of work at a Senior and Director level.

Another learner was able to automate reports using their new skills - resulting in 8.5 days of work saved for one report, equating to an annual saving of £15,000.

84% of learners agree that they have increased their ability to add value to clients, and 100% say they feel confident using their new data skills.

Powering collaborative digital and data transformation across Leeds health and social care

Across the Leeds health and social care system, data skills are considered a vital tool for joining up decision-making and improving patient care.

In partnership with Multiverse, Leeds Health and Care Academy (LHCA) led a unique collaboration between health and care partners — including Inspire North, Leeds County Council, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Leeds Student Medical Practice and many more — to improve data skills within the sector.

LHCA provides a collaborative approach to transformative shared learning across all health and social care organizations in Leeds. In addition to building bespoke development programs, LHCA works to embed organizational change by advancing digital, data, and technology capabilities across the workforce.

Enabling data-driven and joined up decision making

In one example during the COVID-19 pandemic, a Data Analyst used their new skills to link datasets and build an interactive, shareable map showing vaccine uptake across Leeds. 

This enabled colleagues across the city to identify areas of low vaccine uptake and prioritise outreach.

After being brought together through the data upskilling program, employees across Leeds have built strong working and personal relationships.

Through in person events, learners were given the opportunity to connect with senior leadership, alongside community events as a part of the Multiverse offering connecting them with the wider learner ecosystem.

The benefits were clear — 100% of learners said they felt a sense of belonging and support from the Multiverse community.

Keele University launches new AI and data programmes

Keele University has partnered with tech company Multiverse as part of a drive to increase efficiency and performance in a push for industry-leading professional services.

The partnership will deliver AI and data programs for over 50 professional services staff, as part of a drive from the University to bolster areas including student recruitment and student experience while developing a team of AI and data literate colleagues through at-work upskilling.

Enrolled employees have been assessed on their suitability for five of Multiverse’s programs, with an assessment carried out for each person based on existing skill level, seniority and role within the university.

Programs include the 13-month ‘AI for Business Value’ level 4 apprenticeship, which will help learners to identify business value gains that can be achieved through using AI and how to execute AI projects responsibly.

The Data Fellowship (standard or advanced) will upskill employees in data analysis and data science, while the Business Transformation Fellowship will help Keele University to deliver strategic initiatives with an agile mindset and drive change in an evolving digital workplace.

In addition to establishing a culture of AI and data literacy across the university, Keele hopes support its future strategy through the automation of manual processes and the use of newfound skills to identify cost-and-time-saving opportunities.
